To be 100% fair, this isn't solely stupidity. I have no idea how smart DMX is - and I wouldn't lay odds on him being bright - but I have met white technophobes, and they are EXACTLY like this.
I think it's a real anxiety of some sort around tech, and not just having missed the boat on learning how to use it. You can take a lot of people who never learned how to use a piece of tech, and put it in their hands, and they will just be curious and maybe excited to test it out and figure out how it works. I didn't even have a cell phone until a year ago myself; but when I got one I didn't sit around going, "WHY DOES IT HAVE SO MANY BUTTONS. OH GOD, WHY IS IT MAKING NOISE?!" I just played around until I understood how to use it.
But a small minority of people have THIS reaction - they freak out over every little detail that they don't understand and act like the thing is going to explode at any moment.
