I would say as a Christian that I am cool with people coming over. However the fact that we treat people from other countries better than we treat our own homeless, children and veterans. Is kind of a joke don't you think? Being human is about being rational too. Yes I know these people need help and places to stay. Yet when I see the same homeless guy for 8 months walking around in shorts and a jacket in the rain, my heart strings are pulled a little bit more on that issue. If everyone was taken care of in America first, then I see no issue with this at all.
This doesn't excuse it, but the reason a lot of homeless are homeless is because they're mentally ill and unable to care for themselves like adults. Refugees aren't crazy, in fact their sanity is supported by the fact that they're fleeing conflict. Refugees just need a place to start and they'll be able to take care of themselves. The homeless need full time care.
While we should be taking care of them because we as a country can absolutely afford it, refugees are a temporary problem because they can care for themselves eventually.
There's no fucking excuse for not taking care of veterans, though.

It's because they claim to be "pro-life Christians" and won't admit they're actually anti-abortion. Someone who is genuinely pro-life would care about refugees. If you haven't seen people conflating these, you haven't paid much attention to anti-abortion protestors: http://www.rawstory.com/2015/10/abortion-clinic-drowns-out-protesting-christians-with-we-are-apes-recording-and-its-awesome/
