now the devs are saying that they will stay away from reddit and stick to their own forums. I think I'm going to get this game.

What is amusing about this whole ordeal is the BattlefrontUpdates mods have been taking money for their site/youtube channel through their connections from the subreddit for awhile. Which includes mass advertising the site/channel.

If you think this is the end of all EA stealth marketing, you are sadly mistaken. This is just a very basic PR move. They'll still do outrageous shit like spamming anti-boycott petitions with bots and staging fake protests against their own games, and that's just a part of what they've been caught doing. Every AAA producer stealth markets and will continue to do so.

The devs will be back. Like it or not Reddit is the place to be for a large community of casual players who aren't willing to go to multiple forum sites. That being said it would be better for them to make a stronger maybe smaller community on their own site for the longevity sake of their game.

I plan on getting it too.

So just one day after Reddit introduced "Account Suspensions" as a replacement for shadowbans, they go and shadowban multiple mods. So much for that.

Very convenient isnt it, I mean how new systems, happenings and staff replacement always fall into place.

Aaron should have writen the code evey guy dreams of, a code that delts your browser history the moment you die, just twist it to burn the reddit servers, if he did the world would be a better place now even when it just contained the retards back to tumblr.

It actually happened before they made that announcement. The blackout thread however was after it.

I don't feel particularly sorry for them. If a shadowban was ever earned it was there.

It was intended for spammers and advertisers, and that's what they were doing. So yeah, very well earned.

I wondered about that, but I'm sure they had already decided on the new suspension rule before this incident, they just hadn't announced it. They could have "suspended" their accounts anyway.

I demand you write this story out as a fully detailed romance novel. You can call it 50 speeds of Sonic. I will be on standby with buckets ready.

I'm pretty sure there probably is something exactly like this that already exists somewhere in the autistic fandom of sonic the hedgehog.

There is no way this was the only sub under outside influence. How many other, more popular subs are run this way?

Pretty much all the defaults. If you don't think there's rampant corruption on reddit, you're not looking.

Definitely all the ones pertaining to a particular company or product.

Almost definitely the Fallout subreddits.

Its a good thing that I ditched both the EA games at bf3 and reddit a while ago. Anyone still on those things is either retarded, apathetic or new to the internet.

Or finds a necessity in some of the niche subreddits. I mean, come on, given the choice between, let's say /r/DarkSouls or the Dark Souls message board on GameFAQs...the choice is kind of obvious.

EA isn't even the full issue here. I am sure Bethesda is doing the same thing right now for Fallout.

[–] pr0nw4r ago

EA is very much the issue here, on a scale of 1 to ten, with one being the devil incarnate, 5 being the avergage DLC fag developer and 10 being ye olde gaming companies that cared about their fans. EA is -3 and bethesda is somewhere along the 5.

What prevents that stuff from happening here?

[–] dabork 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Not much. Right now we're small enough to be off the radar and most big corporations wouldn't want to be associated with us anyway because of the two most popular subverses. That said, it's not at all unlikely that it could/already is happening.

If you suspect anything is happening like this in the future, let us know at v/protectvoat

In our sidebar:

This sub is for documenting the attempts to drag Voat down into the mud by various censorship, advertising or shilling groups

[–] HomerSimpson [S] 1 point 1 point (+2|-1) ago

You really think Protectvoat can stop shilling? It can barely stop censorship and that is with help from others.

0
9

[–] Dereliction 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago

Three things:

1) Voat has a small population and therefore does not represent a lucrative place to bother with when better opportunities can be had at places like Reddit.

2) Voat has a reputation involving racists, fat-people shamers and an anything goes environment. Not exactly an environment companies look to shine their brand or own reputation among.

3) If Voaters discover corruption and corporate influence, the reaction is likely to be more vitriolic than at other avenues. Not worth it for most companies.

Nothing that I know of, other than this site isn't as popular as reddit yet, so it might not merit the attention from the greedbags yet.

3

[–] HomerSimpson [S] 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

And likely will have more corruption because of the way the site's mail is handled. Mods can't report other mods doing shilling in mod mail like how it happened in /r/starwarsbattlefront because mod mail doesn't exist. The "Message the Moderators" button sends each mod an individual message.

Hang on... isn't that a good thing? Admins slapping down abusive mods? I mean... it's not like they actually did it to one of theirs, like SRS or something, but it's still good.

well they did say that they werent going to shadowban people anymore but yes its progress

0

[–] Broc_Lia 0 points 1 point (+1|-0) ago

Afair they said that the new suspension thing would be used for the majority of non-spammer accounts. If they're keeping shadowbans for undeclared marketing alts then this was reasonable.

2

[–] HomerSimpson [S] 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Yeah I think this is pretty good.

0

[–] m4tthew 0 points 1 point (+1|-0) ago

It's good, but they are using a method that they stated they would stop using. As stated elsewhere they have introduced account suspension, which makes you aware of the ban. They aren't using it.

0

[–] HomerSimpson [S] ago

The proper procedure wasn't in place when this actually happened. They were shadow banned > New system announced > blackout thread.

0

[–] Broc_Lia ago

They didn't actually say they were going to stop using it though, they said that the majority of the time they'd be using suspensions.
