The gut has a big role in the production of our immune system. One week's worth of antibiotics screws up the gut for a whole year.

I had a bacterial colon infection caused by Clostridium difficile, aka C. Diff, in 2004 at the age of 24 and almost lost my life to this infection multiple times. In 2006 I was the last international patient for a doctor in Australia pioneering the fecal transplant method, with 100% success . The process was illegal here at the time because it was unregulated and so I also had to find a doctor here willing to help me find a fecal donor. 15 of my closest family and friends got tested ( $1,100 in blood tests and a stool sample each!) then, the lucky winner was asked to produce for me like clock - work for 10 days straight. I'm so grateful for this process, which worked after every available antibiotic failed. And although I'm sad it's taken more than a decade for the mainstream medical community in the US to embrace this cure, I'm glad it's happening, and this is a great start. Edit: The reason we need an exchange is because out of those 15 people, only one person passed all the tests... Many were ruled out because they had certain vaccines, or had been exposed to bacteria found in cat litter. All of these people were deemed healthy in every other way.

How do we know this isn't just scat fetish? I don't think it's safe for people to "exchange" poop in a non-medical setting. Medical grade poop is expensive and presumably culture tested to be free of bad stuff, and from people who have the good stuff.

Expensive?? Unsafe? First off, there is no such thing as medical grade fecal matter. (I think maybe the title needs to be adjusted.) If it doesn't exist price is irrelevant. As for unsafe... Believe me, someone sick enough to need a fecal transplant isn't going to want to take the chance of becoming sicker, aka dead, unless there is a high probability of success. With an exchange, rules are established for the benefit and safety of all such as testing. Just because a thing seems a certain way does not make it so, thank goodness.

The world isn't safe. It is a person to person exchange, not a clearing house or central poop repository. There may be fetishists that get on. So what? There's people who exploit every system, but that doesn't mean we should stop making systems. Since people make medical marijuana cooperatives to fill the gap that traditional medicine leaves, and even though some people might exploit it, the co-ops should still exist. The same is true of poop cooperatives.

There is no difference as long as you don't have any communicable diseases or intestinal parasites.

As shitty as this sounds it is actually the truth, fecal transplants can cure debilitating intestinal disorders that otherwise leave people with little quality of life.

I don't know about a poop exchange on Voat though, if I needed some spare poop I would probably just hit up my wife or a close friend. Jesus, I'm laughing as I type this thinking about asking one of my friends to spare some shit for a boy in need... Hahaha!

Well, good luck with your sub, I hope we never need it (not because I think it is a bad idea, I just hope no Voaters ever become so ill)!
