I hate to joke about people going hungry because it's not a joke, and you often can't tell who is truly suffering.
That being said, they certainly don't look live they've ever gone without food.

You're definitely right. I've always thought of food banks as a noble cause. There are definitely people who need them. But this hamily is just ridiculous! Why would they ever use these people? It's like some sick joke.

I've done a lot of volunteer work at various locations, and you see everything; from the folks who have been living on the streets for some time and just need some food, warmth, and compassion, to fat fucks rolling up in their brand-new vehicles and taking food they clearly don't need.

Maybe they're trying to relate to the super fats? Idk. I agree, this family may be struggling, but nobody is going hungry.

My mum works with a lot of disadvantaged kids and families and she is so anti food banks it's unbelievable. Basically in her experience families on benefits are more inclined to spend their money on super sized TV 's on weekly payments, or on drink and drugs, or gambling then use the food bank to bail then out. It's a shame that people like that spoil things for people genuinely in need.

I heard an argument earlier today about poor people being fat because they eat out of fear there might not be more food. This seems halfway reasonable, but given that their food supply doesn't seem to be in shortage, why not eat less? Hell, put some excess in storage for later. That ties in with their second argument that junk food lasts longer than healthy food. Eating better may be more expensive in region to region, but eating simply less is cheaper everywhere.

I want to stop for a moment and thank people in last 200 years. Poor people now have problems with obesity, not malnourishment.
First time in the entire human history.

If someone had a childhood like that, it could lead to binge eating disorder. If there is rarely food in the house, they will eat what they can when they can, so they can gain weight. It's a scarcity that is made worse by hoarding, and it is very hard to break that cycle.

My grandparents are overweight (not by huge amounts, but still) and this is why. For both of them, their parents were working class and struggled with employment for most of their childhoods, so having enough food was difficult at best.
I'm not saying its an excuse, and they don't try to use it as one, but its an explanation for how people who otherwise don't display any of the normal signs of being fat can get that way.

Wired, I'm so sorry it was like that for you. I absolutely cannot relate, coming from a family of four, including my parents. We weren't wealthy by any standards, but it was never close to this.
If I may ask, where did you grow up? This story sounds so third worldly to me.
[–] the_devils_lettuce 0 points 5 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago
That's really fucked up. I'm glad my kids don't have to face that kind of reality. It's one thing to be in poverty and not have enough (almost impossible in the US), it's another to intentionally withhold food from your hungry kids. It makes me sad that this was your experience.
[–] ModerationIsSexy [S] 0 points 32 points 32 points (+32|-0) ago
It looks like they're getting more than they can responsibly handle as it is
[–] NoPenisForNeonHams 0 points 18 points 18 points (+18|-0) ago
Like everyone who has fucking kids even though he or she can't fucking afford them. And for whatever reason, the South Americans and Mexicans seem to shit out a large number of kids.
[–] BonerWizard ago
Shiiiet as a beaner this hit home. At least my parents did it at a slower rate than other Mexicans and saw shame in asking for government benefits but fucking still.... I'm 19 babysitting (more fucking raising) my 5 and 6 year old brothers to ensure they don't become the dregs of society that other spic families let their kids become.

Obviously their bodies entered starvation mode, duh.
[–] inablackbox 0 points 8 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago
They appear to be hungry all the time, which means nothing else EVER matters to them. Watch out, family of sociopaths coming through.
