Never understood French treatment of visitors. In most parts of the world, the host prides themselves in how well they take care of the visiting guest. This seems very counter to an American definition of hospitality. Food is something to be shared and enjoyed, not fought over. Voat is full of retarded right wing conservative racist assholes : ) Don't ever leave this place, it is your circle jerk cage.

I forgot that world leaders have to deal with etiquette issues like this too even for meals. Let's say you have Jewish guests who strictly adhere to the kosher rules for dinner. If you want to make it a non-religious argument, then replace Jewish guests with vegans. ;) Hell, maybe a former alcoholic as a guest. How would this work as a host to avoid a food fight at your dinner party? To accommodate your guests without just getting on your knees as their servants? As a guest, I would take the "When in Rome, do as the Romans" approach and just close my eyes to the offense. Sad that they even have to have negotiations for meals.

I guess in this case, it's as simple as just don't drink the wine, and let your host drink whatever he wants?
But we all know there is more behind this. Just Muslims checking how much they can push the concept of "the west are pussies and have to accept multiculturalism but we don't have to"
I guess the French -in this case- are not inclined to give in. Imagine the same situation with Obama or Putin, we all know how those would end up. Or Trump ;-)
