I imagine some day it will become advantageous for humans to alter their genetic makeup. Maybe people will receive genetic updates just like a computer receives a bugfix. What are the implications? Do you think companies will make mandatory genetic additions if you are to be their employee? Will there be laws that give companies rights over you if your genetics possess their proprietary genes?

If that gene goes into other fields, they own the crop there as well. If my genes end up in offspring, would they not do the same? They already have precedent in non-mammal life.
Your premise is wrong. Check out any objective source on GMO crops and you'll see no one is being taken to court over accidental contamination. Unless you mate with a Monsanto created human they can't get their patented genes into your kids.
