When I swore in as a Canadian citizen, we were told if we wanted to swear the oath over a meaningful book, we could bring one. It could be any book and it wasn't required. I joked about bringing my old leather bound dictionary but forgot it that day.

The oath contained no mention of gods.

Go Canada!

Way out from where? Do you know where I live?

A terrible smartass, the worst kind.

HA. When I was gearing up to leave the US, I'd end up in discussions and say how I didn't agree with particular politics. This was at the height of the 9/11 patriot fervor mind you. You just didn't speak bad about the troops or Bush in some circles.

One guy actually said to me "Love it or leave it pal."

My reply?

"Okie dokie. Bye."

Since I left the US, my life has only improved. I contribute to my society and the society doesn't hinder me. Funny how well that works. I wonder how life is going for the love-it-or-leave-it guy?
