Some kids, when all else has failed, just need to be whacked. And just having that as a possibility is probably more then enough to get those kids to behave without having to actually hit them.

Let me guess, you were spanked or hit as a child so you normalized it and think it's what should be done to children?

Actually, I was a pretty obedient kid and my parents are pretty left-leaning so anything close to punishment was pretty rare.

I do have a brain, though, and can distinguish violence used as punishment from violence used as abuse. Yeah, it's a fuzzy line - parenting is not easy.

I personally obersved the slow change in behavior that developed in students after the media pretty much banned corporal punishment everywhere. I got out of the system just in time to miss the installation of metal detectors, which became necessary once the faculty could no longer control the students.

Corporal punishment has been present in almost every society, historically. There was never even a need to abandon it other than for the subversion of society.
