Given enough time i think a faction of humans will go fully digital and explore the endless possibilities of mental exploration. I would sign up. Living endless MMO games how ever i wish.
Because I'd watch the game trailer? I likely wouldn't jump into anything that wasn't built specifically for the purpose of leaving this reality for a massive variety of other realities.

Pendragon: The Reality Bug addressed this notion in a somewhat distopian way. The protagonist arrives on a planet in which the people have invented full dive virtual reality (think like Sword Art Online). The entire planet is almost deserted because everybody has turned to their own private perfect reality, and very few people are left to maintain the systems that make it all possible.
(The book is #4 in a series. I very much enjoyed them when I was a young teen)

What makes you think you would be allowed to have a good time, once you hook up to it?
