Watch Jeopardy reruns, pick up a copy of Schott's Original Miscellany, find a hobby that involves routine trips to Home Depot and watch your odds and ends how to do and things to know knowledge increase.

Also look into the Foxfire series of books, an Audubon guide of choice... Fuck it go back in time and join boy scouts they taught us how to do so damn much unless you 15 or 16 then there's still time.

Reading is the most critical but it's critical to keep the reading varied from Pynchon to a Python Manuel snake or language.

Seems like something you could call common knowledge.

Do stuff. People learn "common sense" mainly because something has blown in their face. Also because people told them, but this one isn't fun.

I think common knowledge mostly comes from having your own personal judgement and making a few errors here and there and learning not to repeat them. Unfortunately, some people just do not have any judgement abilities and also lack ability to learn from mistakes. Hence you have dolts that interfere with the rest of our miserable existence in this void planet of apes.

But if it's "common knowledge" shouldn't you already know it? It sounds like what you might be thinking of is uncommon knowledge, and you might perhaps just have a set of really smart friends (kudos).

Also, it's common knowledge that the best way to learn "stuff" is to read about what you don't already know :-P

In my case it's probably people being more knowledgeable than me combined with a shitty ability to retain information.

As a kid I put my finger inside a lamp without a lightbulb to see if it was still on, it was...

No revelation beside the obvious one.
