You say that
It doesn't feel right to name them
but also that
I am intimately familiar with them
The way you try to explain this doesn't make sense to me. If you're intimately familiar with the bike, why wouldn't you give it a name? It sounds like a great reason to me. I work on my bikes too. And since I ride them so often, naming them makes sense. The bikes are so much a part of my life that I get to know them intimately, and it's almost like another being with its own personality and quirks.

I named my old bike.
It was the cat as it seemed to have had 13 lives.
Sadly after being stolen several times, hit by a car, thrown in a lake and a pond.
It was finally stolen for the last time.

;(
I hate bike thieves. I really, really, really do. Aside from ignorant, rude, and dangerous drivers, they're the worst thing a cyclist has to deal with (unless you live where theft isn't an issue). I'd love it if all I had to worry about is a flat tire. It always seems to be the rear one that gets punctured.

Yeah, it was a fucked up situation. I had moved out of that house and had planned to go back over and ride my bike home. A few days after I moved I came down with the shingles and was unable to retrieve my bike (and a lot of other stuff) and during that time the scumfuck who replaced me as a room mate either sold it or got it stolen.
When I found out I was out for blood.
Now I love in one of the most intense bike theft counties in the nation. So I think a nice $150 Craig's List bike is in order.

I do, I generally go with puns.
I got three ten speeds- a brown one, red one, and blue one.
The black and red ones I got repaired first, they were respectively the '(bi)Cycles of Violence (red) and Hate (brown).'
Then I got Serenity (Blue) fixed after I seriously crashed on the red one (Violence).
