This has potential, but I see an issue with a lack of an industry standard for connections and ports. Furthermore, Fairphone is the only company that does this type of modular cell, so when Fairphone decides to stop supporting and releasing hardware updates for the 2, purchasers are screwed. Therefore, I dont see how this eliminates planned obsolescence.

Not sure about this phone and its support.

But Project ara has other companies making the modules, so as long as people buy the modules, I can't see how they would pull support

At the very least, it beat Project Ara/Phonebloks to it but yes, could be dangerous if Fairphone itself ends support.

The Fairphone 2 is only being released in a handful of select European countries for the time being.

Oh well.

once there is open sourced gpu chips.. able to fab copyleft ICs, the rest will follow,,, tech geeks pay checks will follow on a quest to build truly hardware for people. Love the phone but the issue is deeper than what this phone scratches. ARM Holding makes noice chips but a future where companies are 2 decades ahead of publicly produceable technology is fucking bullshit.. right? I might just buy me a cage and work to pay cellphone/lifeportal debt right now,,, ahh shit..
