Was gonna say that they say Texas because Florida is harder to pronounce.

They're interchangeable. But, also two different types of insanity.

In Florida you murder your imaginary friend and turn yourself in.

In Texas you support killimg those who wrong you, and a fast lane to execution for murderers.

We in the Old South just use 'California'.

Texas uses Texas to mean crazy. As in don't mess with Texas... wait a minute. That was from an anti-littering campaign?

Alberta is pretty much Canada's Texas. I wonder if there's an Alabama of the north?

In Czech, you can refer to someone as a Hungarian (Maďar) to say that they're incomprehensible. (If you've ever seen something written in Hungarian, you know why.)

There's also the expression "<noun> je pro mě jako španělská vesnice" ("<noun> is like a Spanish village to me"), meaning "I can't understand anything about it".

And you can also say that a place is like a "židovská škola" (Jewish school), meaning it's a mess where everyone is shouting over each other and noone can understand anyone else - either literally or figuratively.
