I stopped using AVG a few years ago when they started making it harder and harder to find the link to download free version. I only noticed because as they would upgrade to new versions eventually you would have to go and download the latest version to keep getting signature updates. Over time the free download just got hidden behind more and more links trying to get you to buy it or install the trial version.

I stopped using AVG when the (granted, free) tech support (forums) turned out to be BS. If you don't give them EXACTLY the information they want in EXACTLY the format that they describe (about 12 different things), their response is "Sorry.. we can't help you if you can't tell us what's wrong." Fuck AVG.

Yet ANOTHER reason to not use AVG for anti-virus.

The security software firm says it will not sell personal information such as names, emails, addresses, or payment card details, and will try to "anonymize the data we collect and store it in a manner that does not identify you."

The thing is, they already have proven to become greedy by starting to sell your information. What is preventing them to become even more greedy in the future?
