Anne Rice's Vampire books. Pretty sure Twilight wouldn't have happened if Meyers hadn't been influenced by Rice.

Bram Stoker's Dracula. It is amazing, but everyone wanted to copy it. Fun fact - Vampires prior to Bram did not have fangs, they used to have to make an incision with something else to let the blood flow.

they also were more like ADD zombies. Bram Stoker's work and also Varney the Vampire are held as the origins of the "Victorian Vampire" archetype.

Varney actually predates Dracula, but didn't have as good of marketing.

I'd have to say The Walking Dead. As far as I remember, it spawned the zombie craze, and nothing good came from that.

28 Days Later probably did that, followed up with the remake of Dawn of the Dead. Walking Dead didn't get popular until it landed on AMC and TWD has been in publication since 2003.

Creed et al. probably wouldn't have existed without Nirvana.
