Ok, let me give you the rundown. There's this game. Kids wanna play this game, requires 4 people. They're also being trolled by some people online. The game turns out to be kind of fucked up as it messes up with reality, and then fucks shit up royally, like meteors fall from the sky kind of thing. And then it turns to the trolls, who are actually aliens. Their civilization is fucked up, and also they're somehow part of the game. Or their own game, rather. So you have 1 or 2 games? They're kind of linked. So shit happens. Bad shit. And then more shit. People die. Shit like that. But sometimes people die and then they don't die. Cuz shit is complicated and people have dream selves which helps. And they can become gods so they become more powerful and semi immortal. But shit is fucked up so bad that the only way to fix it is to start all over. So they change things slightly, so the game instead starts a generation before. So now there's a new game or two with their parents and grandparents or whatever. But there's also a version of their parents that grew up. And there's also the evil guy's game, who becomes combined with some other shit to become even worse. And if it wasn't complicated enough, there's even more versions of all of them because of so much time travel, although it focuses on the main 2 timelines. Mostly. Yeah. BASICALLY IT'S ALL FUCKED UP. TIME TRAVEL.

Are there plot threads that get nowhere?

Not really. Everything ends up tying back somehow, even if much later. That one stupid thing you forgot about could easily be the thing that defeats the evil villain. Or became him.
