@Atko, I have been wondering this as well. The site is going to be govern by Switzerland law...

Do we (you) have an attorney at hand to answer the issues that might come up?

Is there information written in English that gives us some basic points?

We all want free speech, but we also don't want to draw attention to ourselves. If we knew the laws governing us we can keep our "activities on the proper side of the line". wink, wink.

any Swiss lawyers hanging out, and willing to answer some basic questions that may, or may not have to do with a site like this...;-) Please say yes

What does it matter? If censorship gets as shitty here as it did on reddit, people will leave or the site will relocate to a new country, the same way pirate bay was able to keep moving around.

Actually, having voat setup as a p2p site might not be a bad thing and a way to move forward and differentiate itself from reddit...

Would have to tread carefully with p2p. Once people can help 'host' the site, you have to worry about manipulation of the site through nefarious 'helpers'. Just like many Tor nodes are run by people who are very interested in breaking / monitoring Tor, or torrents are joined by anti-torrent groups to out participants or willingly serve bad blocks of data. One thing that could happen is a bunch of clients decide to get along for 5 minutes and then pretend their connection is bad when data is requested. A steady stream of nefarious participants could degrade the site's performance significantly and drive people away.

Food for thought.

Excellent point. Although block chain may offer hope.

I was wondering the same. I found this on Wikipedia http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_in_Switzerland

The constitution provides for freedom of speech and press, and the government generally respects these rights in practice. An independent press, an effective judiciary, and a functioning democratic political system combine to ensure freedom of speech and of the press. The law penalizes public incitement to racial hatred or discrimination, spreading racist ideology, and denying crimes against humanity, but there were no convictions or arrests during 2012 under this law. Under Swiss federal law, it is a crime to publish information based on leaked “secret official discussions.” A number of cases involving violations of secrecy by the press were under investigation during 2012, but authorities handed down no sentences for such offenses.

Someone on internet said it, so it must be true.

Not really. Swiss court rules that Nazi salute may be 'personal statement', not racism.

Haha, that's pretty hilarious.

It's accurate. For example: I could be using the salute ironically to lampoon the nazis. Similar arguments lead to restrictions on the swastika being eased in Germany, although you can still be prosecuted depending on the usage.
