Whoa.... Is that typical in the UK? That sounds so inefficient. So basically people can be awful and get away with it for months if not years. Wow. I'm legitimately stunned.

Here we can call the cops but its not guaranteed that they will come or help. I saw a driver hit a parked car once and damage it, got the license and called, no one showed. More recently someone stole my credit card and bought a bunch of stuff to grow drugs, and shipped it to my house while I was on vacation. I called thinking that the police would want to look into it but they blew me off. If you have money, they will help. The noise complaint was lucky.

I live in New Jersey near Manhattan, its very crowded, I guess they don't have time or are too lazy.

Not sure how typical it is in the rest of the UK, my council is ridiculously inefficient, and the police force isn't much better. It took this family over 2 years to be evicted and they were setting fire to stuff and dealing drugs.

The police respond sometimes, it seems mostly luck based. I once had the police called on me when I used to fund raise for the WWF door to door (Not voluntary, for commission, it was a terrible job) because an old woman was scared when i knocked on her door. The police knew I was licensed to be there but they still came out, just to tell me not to knock on her door. (I'd already been and gone from her address anyway)

It seems like your cities' laws seriously favor tenants. It's the same here but to a lesser extent, they usually get about a year before eviction. It can be good and bad, some landlords do treat their renters badly but it sucks that scumbags can't be made to leave, especially if they bother everyone else. I think most people generally like to live in peace, it bites when a person or family destroys that. Makes me grateful to own a house now, with neighbors 30 feet away.

Edit: sorry. 9 meters away. I forget that everyone else uses metric.
