Yeah, papa smurf is totally in the wrong here. He set his son up for failure. I'm not against guns but clearly if the gun laws where followed here, this would not have happened. He bought a gun he knew he should not buy, and made it available to someone who should not have access to guns.
Unless he didn't know he was subjected to domestic violence order? But that doesn't really matter, how did his teenage son get his gun?
The real crime? My boys and I shoot all the time, when we're done the guns are locked up, not for their safety but I don't want them stolen. So why wasn't this gun stored safely?
Your comment seems like he bought the guns after the Protection Order was given which I didn't get from the link. Which would seem like the background check failed. If he had them before the PO you'd think they'd be confiscated but that doesn't happen. Locked up makes sense though for sure. And I don't think you can have a PO against you without knowing it. You have to be served I think.
Everything you described can happen, and has happened. Look at all the dead people because the people who call for gun control don't follow the laws they call for. Gun Control rules kill people.

Damn good question. I don't go shooting often at all, but when I do they're broken down, cleaned, and put in a safe as soon as I get home. No chances.
