Once I typed "homemade brownies" and the result was "Calories: 100 Size: a piece (how big? Who knows!)"
Knew the fatty right away

My family has a rule. Don't lie...and if you're going to make a mistake, overestimate the calories in.

On a life raft overestimating calories is bad. In the land of "dodging food flying towards your mouth" overestimating is good.

On a life raft your real concern is fresh water, you'll die from dehydration months before you even think about starving to death.

It's not that hard to estimate reasonably, and if you're really lost, just go purposefully overboard with your estimate! Every time I cook something in oil, even just pan searing some salmon, I always tack on like 200 extra calories, more if I don't measure the oil exactly.
[–] ShitArchon 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago
That's not a bad estimate: sardines in oil are 600 calories, whereas sardines in mustard sauce are only 360 calories.

Once I saw an entry for some kind of apple, it had like 16g of protein and no carbohydrates. I'm sure tons of people on that site do shit like that and complain on the MFP boards that they aren't losing weight.
A lot of entries are just plain inaccurate though, with a few weird numbers that seem like people just guessed for them

Ah yes the fabled protein apple. One hit Sir Isaac Newtown under a tree, that's why he was so swole.

MFP is a pretty good tool if you weigh and measure your food. Like I weigh and measure everything, even down to home made pasta sauces, so I can make sure I don't over eat. I've never looked at other peoples entries though- are they hilarious?

"8oz ribeye steak for 150 calories"
"average calories for a serving of shepard's pie and I found one that was like 100 calories"
feels not reals bro.

Hey, that's only like 400 calories off. Nbd, man. That's nothing, I burn that off on my nightly 20 minute walk.

My mom once made homemade lasagna. I had to put it in and because of all the cheese I knew it would probably have been about 800-1000 calories for the serving I ate. Most of the ones I saw equated my serving size to about 600 calories. I also saw one that was 50 calories for 100g of lasagna. Some fatty must've binged on lasanga and created that one.

"How can I feel better about what I eat"
"Better go dream up some calories with recipes on MFP"
