He'd immediately get arrested for hate speech or something after seeing all the Muslims around and freaking out.

He'd probably run around screaming that the golden horde had returned to claim Europe for the glory of Allah.

EDIT: actually spaced out and missed the part where you said New York, in which case he would likely be mesmerized by all the lights and tall buildings.

At what age? If we're talking about a matured LdV, I think he would be amazed by our modern world, but struggle with it. If we're talking about at the point of his birth, I think he would find challenges in our existing scientific and engineering problems, and novel solutions to them throughout his life. I think he'd struggle with the rigidity of the modern scientific discipline, and likely a lot of his work would go unpublished. Potentially it would be found later and be shown to be correct centuries in the future.

I think he would be amazed and then fascinated with modern technology. "You mean you've been to the Moon?" That and the scope of civilization's changes having taken place.

I think he wouldn't have a hard time understanding the technology. However, society and culture would be a shock to him and he might have trouble adapting.

He would invent 20 things that couldn't be built until the 25th century.
