It just doesn't make any logical sense. Book Stannis is totally different from show Stannis.

The daughter thing didn't make sense to me because it defeats the entire purpose of him becoming king. With no one to succeed him the line would die anyway and his wife didn't seem able to produce any more offspring.
Also where did the Boltons get such a large force of cavalry? Did the men who abandoned Stannis join him?

How in the fuck did a single attack by Ramsay and his band of idiots drive the best military commander alive in Westeros to go fll bore and burn his daughter alive for a religion that he has repeatedly said he doesn't believe in?

I'm sure he's dead at some point, but I've read the stannis/theon chapter and I suspect there's a lot more plot then the show revealed. However, I do know that GRRM can kill anyone at anytime.
