(that movie about the 2 friends that buy a cabin in the woods and all the college students accidentally kill themselves)

That would be Tucker & Dale Vs Evil. If you enjoyed that, you might enjoy Cabin in the Woods.

The Departed and The Grand Buddapest Hotel are probably right up your ally.. lots of people stories coming together. Also, Crash... but I've never seen that one. I hear it's good though.

I assume you've already seen Snatch right? It's part of the Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels films.

Some of my other favorites

Army of Darkness - Over the top horror, silly, kind of funny. Dude ends up in medieval times and has to find the Necronomicon.

Children of Men -- Nobody can get pregnant, people are dying and nobody is being born.

The Adventures of TinTin -- Animated but it's awesome. It's a Spielberg film so you know it's cool

Speed Racer -- Based on the cartoon, I think they did a great job bringing it to life. I'd say definitly check it out... people seem to either love it or hate it. It's a really cool looking film... family friendly and all.

Some oldies:

Braveheart, Mars Attacks, The Warriors, They Live, The Thing,

The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the few I have seen, but only because my brother showed it to me. It was absolutely fantastic. Though I haven't seen the rest of the movies you've listed. They made a Tin Tin movie? Holy shit this better be good.

Edit: Yeah I've seen Snatch - a classic.

TinTin is great.

It's got that classic 80s Adventure/Mystery feel to it... but because it's Computer Animated the people, the environment, and the camera can do a lot of really cool things that would otherwise be impossible to film or just really, really expensive.

There's a scene where a dam breaks and 3 different groups of people are racing and fighting over one tiny piece of paper... also while running away from a bunch of water. It's so cool...

Movies since 2010 that you need to see:

Inception - dreams within dreams within dreams...MUST SEE

How to Train Your Dragon - digital toon about a boy and his dragon

Shutter Island - the less you know about this mindfuck going in the better...just watch it.

The Book of Eli - Denzel in a post-apocalyptic wasteland...should be right up your alley, probably the worst movie on this list, but still good

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - origin story for Planet of the Apes, duh

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - Tom Cruise dangling from the Burj Dubai

Skyfall - James Bond 007

Looper - time travelling assassins

Gravity - an astronaut is stranded in orbit after the shuttle and iss are destroyed

Captain Phillips - Tom Hanks is captain of a freighter attacked by modern day pirates

The Wolf of Wall Street - biopic about the slimiest slimeball who ever slimed

Ender's Game - adaptation of the Orson Scott Card scifi book

Guardians of the Galaxy - the pinnacle of comic book movies...not to be missed

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - sequel to Rise

Interstellar - I didn't like it, but people would freak if I left it out...should be right up your alley, but it should be right up mine too

Gone Girl - Ben Afleck is investigated for murder when his wife disappears

Edge of Tomorrow - also sold as Live. Die. Repeat. Should have been a massive scifi movie, but marketing fucked it. Watch it.

Morgan Freeman movies: Transcendence (scifi movie about AI and nanotech...ghost in the machine type stuff...good, but everything above is better), Last Vegas (comedy aimed at old shits like me, i liked it), Oblivion (small role in Tom Cruise scifi set in post alien invasion wasteland...it's ok), Lego Movie (never seen it...people who give a shit about legos seemed to like it)

You can't go wrong with any of these. Just make sure Inception and Guardians are the 1st 2 you watch.

I forgot about Dark Knight Rises. It has Morgan Freeman, but it's the weakest of the Batman movies.

Are the Batman movies (Begins, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises) a lot better than regular super hero movies? Should they be watched in any particular order?

Seeing a few movies mentioned by several people, a good sign that I need to see these films!

The new Batman movies, (in order: Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises) in my opinion are one of the few comic book movies that are actually great movies.

They are shot like real films, very little CGI and very little flash, lot's of story and character development. Batman Begins is my 2nd fav, but real good. The Dark Knight is the best, and the Dark Knight Rises is good but not as. They depict Batman in a real dark gritty manner like in the comic books. I don't like many Super Hero movies like Spiderman, Superman, barely like some of the Xmen movies, and the Avengers are too flashy in my opinion. They should be watched in order, but don't have to be.

Also the Watchmen is a real great comic book movie. Probably the best comic book movie yet.

Also to note, all these movies that I mentioned should be watched LOUD, and with a LARGE SCREEN. Watching these movies on a smaller scale won't do any of them justice leaving a taste of betrayal in your mouth. A taste of betrayal left by your fellow voaters'.

Here are a number of post-2009 movies I would recommend, in no particular order:

I watch a lot more older movies (from the 60s - 90s -- and especially from the 70s and 80s) than I do new, just because I prefer the look and feel of older movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ones I listed. I'm sure there are more that I'm missing. And that list doesn't include any documentaries, which I love. I wasn't sure if you were into documentaries. If so, I could probably name a few more.

All of those look fantastic. Thank for putting in the time to link all the IMDB's, very kind of you. Those sci-fi ones you listed sound really good!

I'm so-so on documentaries. Documentaries about really out there things I'll likely watch, not so much a David Attenborough fan.

City of God, one movie I haven't seen recommended yet. Definitely a modern classic.
