I don't think the cops or the teachers were being stupid, that was a real bomb or in some way a genuinely harmful device I don't think you could argue they did anything wrong. The kid lost a few hours of his time while the school tried to do the right thing the wrong way.

Yes they were. Even the local inbred uneducated hick can see that it does not at all look like a bomb. Don't have to be a electronics expert to know that electronics can not make the air explode, you need some explosives. So they WERE idiots.

Yeah except he was arrested not because they thought it was a bomb but because they thought he intended to create a bomb hoax using his Frankenstein clock but was released after it became clear he never intended to do that. I'm leaning on the side of the kid being an idiot in an environment that doesn't really tolerate allowing kids to be idiots from time to time but sweet fuck all happened to him, he was arrested yeah so what? Its not like this shit went to trial.

I'd like to believe that the kid just did a dumb thing, like kids sometimes do, but like @Gamio, I am starting to wonder if there is a little more to this story. It just doesn't quite add up.
These days I wouldn't be surprised if the kid was encouraged by his parents to make this thing look suspicious, and to bring it to school, knowing the media would jump on it. But I also wouldn't be surprised if he just did a dumb kid thing, and didn't fully think things through. That's pretty normal for a kid. Hell, that's -- sadly -- normal for many adults.

I'll be honest here it looked more like a hastily thrown together and shit science project thats been blown way out of proportion by the school and media just to be a media frenzy of white guilt but the skeptic in me says that unless this kid is borderline retarded no one would believe he actually made that clock and specifically put it into that case and hauled it to each of his classes without a good reason.
