They already do this.. That's why privacybadger replaces social media buttons.

I heard of that plugin for Firefox before and am trying it out. I usually don't click on any social media buttons on any site but the social media sites themselves though

Doesn't matter whether you click them or not. Whenever you visit the page, your browser will load the like button from the Facebook servers so that it can display it to you, and Facebook can derive what page you're visiting from that request.

Ghostery does the same thing. I have all 3, Ghostery, AdBlockPlus, and Privacy Badger.

Ghostery is closed source

Ghostery opts you in to "GhostRank" by default, which sells your information to advertisers.

The entire point of the "likes" crap is so that they can target ads at you. Of course they do this. That's why all these social media douches love "followers" and "likes". Individually they have a group of people they can spam. As a group, it gives them demographics so they can spam other people that have liked things in the categories they're targeting.

Though for Pale Moon users refer to this forum post about getting Privacy Badger working on PM.

Honestly thought this already happens. If you use a feature like this and don't honestly think that Facebook will be tracking that data that's ridiculous.

Are there still people browsing without Ghostery or something like that?

I'm guessing even if you don't use Facebook it tracks?

Anytime you see that "Like this on Facebook" or their thumbs up button on any website your browsing data is being sent back to Facebook.

I recommend privacy badger or noscript to kill their button for good.

Already did, just doesn't work on mobile. I blocked Facebook at my router level though.
