I can't wait for the VA to legalize it. I've got a chronic pain condition and a leg with a plate and rod holding the bones together that still hurts a lot. Having been on pain killers for the better part of last year for my leg, not being in constant pain was awesome. Now that I've had my second surgery I'm back to debating taking painkillers for me chronic pain but the addictive nature and side effects of most are too dangerous IMO to start taking for something that's never going to go away and never get fixed.

Are there talks about legalizing it there?

I meant the Veterans Administration, whoops. Basically I can't wait for it to be federally accepted.

You want to smoke that green recreationally, that is your business. But don't be coming up to me trying to sell it as the miracle cure for all the world's ills, because I will just laugh at you and walk the other way.
It's a drug and it is a habit, just like smoking for the nicotine. Don't try to sell it as something more than it is. Also, fuck you if you smoke that skunk shit.
Legitimate medical uses for that plant, now there is something I'd be interested in discussing.

So it sounds like you are saying it is someones business and you don't care in the first part, but saying 'fuck you if you smoke that skunk shit' in the second part. Would you equate it with being on par with tobacco use?

Amen, there ain't nothing to gain from smoking drugs. It kills brain cells, people get addicted and start stealing from people to get their fix, it hurts children, parents would just get high and forget about their kids, it needs to stay illegal and put people in prison for a long time for using it. The system has worked fine for that, why change it.

I don't know if youre trolling or just plain stupid. Putting people in prison over marijuana is one of the stupidest things to do or support.

You shouldn't knock it's power as a helpful substance until you try it. You will understand.

There's a bit more to it than that.
Marijuana was legislated against in the '30s because:
Hemp threatened the textile industry, where any marijuana grower could produce their own fabrics with the free plant.
Hemp oil threatened the oil industry, where any marijuana grower could produce oil useful for tractors and automobiles with the free plant.
Marijuana usage threatened the known conventional medicine industry.
First the US Congress (colluding with industry, and with the media publishing propaganda) reacted by passing the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Later the act would be interpreted as criminal law, shortly followed by the sweeping 1970 Controlled Substance Act which sadly categorized marijuana exclusively with the most dangerous substances.
The Controlled Substance Act - and things like cocaine and crack flooding urban areas - is where your argument of disenfranchising the minorities is better framed. And I'd say "disenfranchising" is a hell of a euphemism.

What do you mean it was outlawed to disenfranchise Negroes and Hispanics? I feel like that could be a story I would like to hear more about.

...Harry Anslinger, the father of the war on weed, fully embraced racism as a tool to demonize marijuana. As the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, a predecessor to the Drug Enforcement Administration, Anslinger institutionalized his belief that pot's "effect on the degenerate races" made its prohibition a top priority. Here are just a few of his most famous (and most racist) quotes:
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the U.S., and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others."
“Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."
