Reddit has failed. That is why we have more and more people showing up here.

Chances are, it will. However, it's up to the admins and owners of the site to keep it as it is nowadays.

Why does Reddit have to fail for Voat to be succeeding?

I think a world where both thrive can exist. So far it's shaping up to be two different types of user base. Reddit is more like Facebook these days with the exception of smaller subs and even some of those smaller subs are adopting mod practices that kill the community and openness.

Voat will succeed as long as there are users on the site. If it can keep a community then it is successful. It doesn't matter how big that community is. Qualitative posts rather than quantitative posts. Alright I'm going to stop being an elitist hipster prick because I just joined this place :P

voat can succeed without taking down reddit. also, voat doesn't have to be as big as reddit to be deemed successful.

I do believe this site needs more user growth, but the most important thing is to keep a loyal user base that contributes frequently, regardless of the scale.

Reddit is too big to fail, just like Digg was. Just like MySpace was. Just like GeoCities was.

The internet is doing exactly what it was designed to do, be a source of uninterruptible, decentralized communications. And websites definitely have a cycle to them.

Hey, I'm still going strong! I may have removed comments recently, but v3 will fix it all!

Maybe it's just your phrasing, but these things aren't mutually exclusive.

Yeah I didn't get that either. This isn't a zero-sum game.

Its not about taking over Reddit; its about becoming sizable enough to even be considered a rivaling competitor.
