The government is the enemy with regard to this specific matter (but not in general), hence why I said that they're "the enemy here" and not just "the enemy". The NSA is not a privately owned corporation; it's a branch of the US government, and they're spying on US citizens. That is not in the public's best interest, which is why I consider them "the enemy here".

They shouldn't have been as careless with our privacy as they have; this "sorry, we don't got the keys" approach should've been there from the start, on everything. Having anyone other than ourselves (and the intended recipient in the case of messages and such) be able to read our data unencrypted, should've never been an option.
