Keep it going? It's just a trap to get Putin bogged down in a quagmire that he can't afford.

If anyone's been bogged down in expensive conflicts, it's the USA: at war since 2001. The Russians got stung in Afghanistan in the 1980s, and I don't think Putin's silly enough to do similar again.

Not a chance. Putin put a stop to Obama's war plans last time around just by deploying a few naval assets to the region. With Russia troops and planes already there in the fight? He'd have to be absolutely insane to attack now. Russia is not fucking around on this issue. They're in the right here and they're not going to back down.

It's certainly heartwarming to see that someone is willing to oppose the terrorists.

How much will Russian oil be worth if they destabilize the Middle East?

Didn't they get their asses kicked in Afghanistan not too long ago. Let's see how this works out this time.

Afghanistan has almost always been a handful for everyone who's tried(the border region with Pakistan is essentially a barely-enforceable claim on both sides); the Taliban are still an active force, but since nobody's propping them up, they're nowhere near the trouble they were.

Syria, on the other hand, is just a clusterfuck of a civil war. The biggest opposition force is ISIS, which has proven a willingness to establish and honor lengthy ceasefires with the Assad regime. The US is arming rebels as well, but they have by and large either joined or associated with ISIS; the latest batch that are being prepared as specifically anti-ISIS are having trouble getting a foothold. Meanwhile, the Assad regime has managed to hold elections even when the fighting's closed in on the capital.

Someone on another Voat post insisted that the Syrian war is aUS creation as were the rest of the Arab Spring revolts. I don't think so.

Good and bad. Good that someone will be taking the battle to ISIS, bad that's it the Russians, very bad that they are building a base. This shit is on Hillary and Obama for supporting ISIS factions against Assad, and the rest of their "Arab Spring" bullshit that destabilized the whole Mideast.
