Would it be the same rant if it was a collector's edition version of the game that came with concept art book, e-book with additional story, extra mission and 4 days of pre-launch access? Because companies have been doing that kind of thing for quite some time now. Bonuses for pre-orders is nothing new. Gamers getting up in arms over it is starting to become a thing , but these are the same kinds of consumers who pompously label themselves "loyal customers" right before they make an aggressive plea for why they should get deep discounts and freebies because they spent money that one time 3 years ago.

Everybody wants something for nothing and if they can't get that, they at least don't want to see their neighbor get a little something more for a little something more. The price on MGSV's microtransactions was kind of shocking to me but again,, that's an evolved response to consumers who play F2P games and can come up with some almost believable excuses for why "reciprocity" isn't a concept that applies to them.

People like to make a big deal out of a simple decision. Do you want the extras? If so, are you willing to pay the price in faith and/or dollars to get them? If so, then pay the price and enjoy the extras. If not, then go without. Complaining that devs are letting people get extra by pre-ordering or paying more is the embodiment of the entitled attitude. If you want something, be prepared to pay for it. That's what "loyal customers" do. And if you don't trust the developer to deliver a suitable product, why are you worried about extras to begin with?

I might touch on this more after I play (I'm currently downloading updates ) but honestly this is kind of the future, shit or not.

I get we all should "vote with our wallets" and honestly I agree with that on a lot of things but if you expect me to not play an amazing game due to mirco transactions that do not hinder my main experience of the game in hopes that of stopping natural marketing strategies?

I'm not too sure I can get on board with that. Things change and we all have to to adapt. Between what I've heard ( and what I'll soon see first hand ) about Konami and the bullshit happening with Dues Ex, I'd rather have a non obtrusive annoyance than the other options that will be headed our way.

"Things get worse, and we just have to bend over and take it."

No, we don't.

I put 5 hours into MGS:V this morning. I was never once hounded about buying stuff. All of the upgrade i have seen could be bought with in game currency. Frankly, I don't even know where I would go to buy MB coins or whatever they are called even if I wanted to.

It seems like a lot of these microtransactions are tied to the multiplayer aspect, which I have zero interest in.

Agreed, I got about 10 hours in the game and didn't even know there were microtransactions until I read this post.

Well until gamers wake up and quit paying for this type of shit then they're going to keep doing it. These companies know that some people just have to have these games and will pay whatever it takes to get them. Until they start losing money on this it's just going to continue. Meanwhile, casual gamers who're sick of being treated like shit will continue to get screwed.

I've been saying this since the bullshit first started with DRM a decade ago. All it would take is for gamers to stand united and refuse to buy one AAA title and make it clear WHY they boycotted it and no one would try that shit again.

Good luck with that. You have too many nerds with no self control mixed with 10 year olds who don't understand the value of a dollar bitching at their moms to buy them these bull shit games and everything that comes with them

They won't though. This is just human nature being manipulated by marketers.

Exactly the problem. But I don't blame the publishers, they're job is to make money. It's the gamers. The idiots who buy every special edition console and special edition version of every game they want are not only the cause of the trend of half finished games, but also the loudest critics. They're brain dead monkeys who deserve to be swindled by gaming companies.
