Downgrade back to 7 if you can. If it's been over 30 days since you installed Windows 10 you might encounter problems. Do you still have the original disk?
Windows 10 is a rolling release model, and slowly more and more computers running Windows 10 will become less and less compatible as the operating system evolves.

Yeah, I have all I need to downgrade to 7, it'll just take several hours to install the OS then reinstall and reconfigure everything. I was hoping there was a way to control the updates somehow. I wouldn't care about automatic updates if they didn't crash my computer every time.
My computer is 5 years old. I have Win10 home. It hasn't crashed once. That "configuring windows" screen has stayed on for up to 11 minutes; but that was once. I just made myself a sandwich and watched an episode of futurama.

You may want to cross-post this in Microsoft's own forums

Though I'm doubtful it'll solve the crashes (since I have a pathetically small amount of info about the crashes), I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
