Twitter's reason for shutting down the services:
"Imagine how nerve-racking – terrifying, even – tweeting would be if it was immutable and irrevocable? No one user is more deserving of that ability than another. Indeed, deleting a tweet is an expression of the user’s voice."

the ignorant and often stupid masses don't realize that other people change over time. the context is lost. i believe there are people who are attacking one of the english princes over shit he did in the 1980's. context is lost, and the message becomes warped because of this. if someone has to go out of their way to find something that was said years ago, the search for it might lead to the context to understand what was meant by the words that came out of their mouth. miscommunication is too easy if there is no context. it is effectively cherry picking as far as logic goes.

What if whenever someone accidentally tweeted a nude loads of people saved them and then redistributed them? Geez, that would be just awful. I bet twitter would get right on top of that.

Repeating a tweet, however, is apparently not an expression of a user's voice. Free speech apparently means that certain people must be shut the fuck up.
And how is tweeting any different than actually speaking? Is it terrifying to utter any sentence because you can't delete it? It's not terrifying to me, but then again, I don't use Twitter.
The fact that they stuck the word "terror" in there is probably the most scary thing I've seen yet. This implies that people who repeat politician's tweets are terrorists.

Not much of a surprise, that implied terrorism. It seems to be the new "Are you a communist?"-type thing.

God forbid that politicians should be held accountable for what they say.

I find it hilarious that they think they can actually force the internet to forget. When will people learn? We do not forget!

Twitter is gay. You can only get in trouble using it (there's no winners only people who haven't lost yet), and the corporation is anti free speech.

How is this not true of any social network anywhere ever?
[–] Cassiekin ago
Nobody said this wasn't the case. Hell, I choose not to use social media because I know I'd say something crass and get fired for it.
