Risk, by far. It's one that you need to devote an entire evening to, but damn is it worth it to watch your friends and family tear each other apart.

I've never been a fan of Risk, it's way too dependant on luck for my tastes, I find Axis & Allies (looks and feels quite similar to Risk) better in that regard.

Does DnD count? If not, Carcassone.

DnD is awesome but I don't know if i'd classify it as a board game. maybe as a secondary classification.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't call DnD a board game - it is tabletop RPG. Carcassonne rocks though.

Betrayal At House On The Hill. You explore a randomly-organized haunted house (you flip cards for the rooms) and take part in random events for items. After a while, the game changes and you have to do one of 50 different scenarios, all of which are brought about by different circumstances. It's awesome because it's different every time.

I always like to play this as a demented Scooby Doo mystery machine group, with the kid being short round and the old man being the professor from Futurama.

I haven't played a board game since 5th grade, which is kind of unfortunate because The Settlers was my shit.

Man I miss.childhood.

A Mighty Fortress.

It is a game so old, the board is actually an A2 piece of paper! It is set in Europe during the religious tension caused by the reformation, with the map on a hexagonal grid. The players take on the role of either England, France, The Hapsburgs or the Ottoman Empire fighting for political expansion, or the Lutherans or the Papacy for religious domination.

It's my favourite because I think it has the perfect balance between strategy and probabilistic uncertainty, and because I love history!
