I made it as far as "mainstream news stations like MSNBC."

Is he really arguing that we were better informed and followed our personal biases less when information was filtered through (fallible, human, biased) gatekeepers? Does he realize the world he is pining for (the one where the information in books, newspapers and TV were supposedly controlled by a truth-seeking technocratic elite) lasted maybe half a hundred years?

The human race has run on gossip and rumor spread by word of mouth since the beginning. If there's too darn much of it now, it's because there are too damn many of us.

SJWs are just an effect of this awful information shit fest that the internet has turned into. But it will allow people like social justice warriors, who do what the video said they do, to thrive over the ones who aren't as interested in those things.

We saw it with reddit too. Reddit, a long, long time ago, used to be an absolutely awesome place filled with quality articles and comments that were equally amazing. And now look at it. It's complete shit compared to how it was. Instead of quality discussion, you get a bunch of people struggling to make jokes and puns for internet points.

People aren't adjusting to all this information we have. They don't generally have the will power to avoid click bait and the useless stuff and spend their time learning and improving themselves. The internet is a vast library with the most information gathered that humanity has ever gathered. The greatest libraries of all time hold just a portion of what a website like Wikipedia holds. And so many people feel compelled to spend their time in places like Gawker, Reddit, Facebook, etc digesting useless information while ignoring good information, and pushing that useless information forward.

If you haven't read it yet, I strongly suggest reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. The book was written around 1930 and the way he foreshadowed a lot of bad things that would happen in this world has been truly shattering to me. I'm personally almost finished with it, and I'm starting to realize that there are people who have seen the way the world is headed for a long time, but they can't speak up because, well, read what happens at the end of Brave New World. Huxley foreshadowed reactions to people leaving their bubbles extremely well.

Kojima's doesn't seem like the first person to ever think this way, which is sort of scary because it's been a long time problem with society and people have just ignored it.

You can get it for like $6 used on amazon after shipping. I prefer real books over ebooks but you could find a cheaper version if you look hard enough. It's well worth the read. I do suggest you be patient with it though. The first bit I was wondering why people recommended it so much but at the end it all comes together. It's sort of terrifying to finish the book and realize it was written in 1931. It's definitely worth it. And to be honest, you will probably end up being able to see parralels between Brave New World and other media besides MGS2. Matrix was sort of similar in that it revolved around people living in an artificial bliss that wasn't natural, too. I think it's actually a somewhat common trend, it just doesn't get brought up much because people don't like look at this thing this.

It's a great video, with a cogent point. While I think Kojima wasn't predicting specifically the rise of SJW's and PC culture way back in 2001, instead he was predicting the core characteristics that are common to information distribution in the digital age, and how such info can be manipulated. The video above touches on this, applying the framework of information curation and manipulation that was Kojima's thesis in MGS2 to the current SJW phenomenon.

In reality I think the problems Kojima set out in MGS2 are far bigger than mere SJW idiocy. Kojima showed us, as Orwell did, as Bradbury did and as Gibson did, how fragile the 'truth' is. How easily it is for those with any kind of authority or power to use information for their own ends, while simultaneously using it as a weapon against their enemies. One of Kojima's points is that today, we have too much information. Every person is continuously, relentlessly bombarded with junk information - Facebook, buzzfeed, Twitter, reddit and a million other sources - that any kind of sense of importance is lost. There is no filter anymore and as such the public drowns in white noise, unable to truly engage with any kind of important information. It's why when it was revealed the Chicago PD operated a fucking blacksite in their own city, detaining people without any legal authority, it was minor news. Few people saw the story, fewer cared. The populous was distracted by the deluge of puff pieces about everything from the NFL to Miley Cyrus.

We live in an age where everyone has a voice, and it seems like nothing of importance can be heard. I think more than SJW's, Kojima was warning us how the abundance of information was a threat to democracy and a weapon of totalitarianism. The worst thing was, he was right.

Yeah just like the video predicted society in America is too distracted at meaningless things like Miley Cyrus for example while the government do their dirty deeds using all sorts of "feel good" distractions like the Confederate Flag controversy or legalizing Gay marriage all over America.

I really wish people would wake the fuck up, deny the junk data, break free & fight back.

This type of society we live in reminds me of this episode from Gurren Lagann called Let's Go Buddy when the Anti-Spiral control the minds of Simon & his team in a illusion of good memories. In my opinion the government, media & so on are the Anti-Spiral & we the citizens are the Spiral trying to fight for our earth. http://www.crunchyroll.com/gurren-lagann/episode-26-lets-go-buddy-628019

Man, see, you get it. Gay marriage? The confederate flag? Sure they're important on some level, but they are issues that are used to distract us from the actual, real shit that we should be correcting. Economic reform? The elite ruling class? Fuck that we have naughty flags to outlaw!
