That is the dumbest petition ever. This is why society is dumbing down
[–] battletoad 7 points 37 points 44 points (+44|-7) ago
There's nothing like a left leaning comedian to convince the masses it's funny to have meaningless partisan bias!
[–] Sargon16 3 points 11 points 14 points (+14|-3) ago
Megyn Kelly just hosted a debate... You don't think she is biased?
What isn't clear here is this... are people suggesting Jon Stewart moderate a Democrat debate, or moderate a full main election debate? I think he'd be fine for a democrat debate, but not for the main debates.

Do you really believe all other moderators don't support one side or the other?
[–] TheBuddha 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
I dunno? Have him do the debate with the Republicans or the Democrats and not between the two parties? I think he'd do fine in that case. I'd watch it, as I mentioned above, and I am not even a fan. I'd have to pirate it because I don't have a television but I am okay with that. Hell, someone will be streaming it live even.

Yes, and they should have a huge team of fact checkers to call out the BS right then and there.
[–] Gerplunckamo 7 points 6 points 13 points (+13|-7) ago
Call out who's bs, the candidate's? Or Jon Leibowitz's?
[–] Gerplunckamo 11 points 96 points 107 points (+107|-11) ago
Yeah, that's not going to be biased at all. Brilliant , OP.

I doubt the idea is: "Wow, Jon Stewart is so unbiased he should host a debate!"
I would assume it's more along the lines of: "If Jon Stewart sat Hillary and Bernie down, he'd ask the questions I'd want to ask and challenge them on the shit I'd want to challenge them on", or something like that.
Fuck yeah, I'd watch that debate. I wouldn't be expecting some kind of super formal, objective, strictly-regulated thing. I'd want to see how those two, together, dealt with JS's interpretive framework and worldview, which clearly resonates with his viewership. People want him to moderate a debate because they think he'll call shit like he sees it; in that sense, the bias is exactly the attraction.
That being said, yeah: of course the petition is wishful thinking. Nobody's going to agree to that shit. Just tryna explain the appeal as I see it.
[–] Gerplunckamo 2 points 5 points 7 points (+7|-2) ago
That makes sense. Have an upgoat for your trouble.
[–] TheBuddha 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago (edited ago)
I don't even like Jon Stewart but I'd certainly watch a debate that he moderated.
[–] tpdplsio 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
I don't really get it since he'd often treat guests on his show with kid gloves and not ask hard questions. But I agree that he's built a brand up around being unbiased, trustworthy, and anti-establishment which is probably where this is coming from.
[–] Codyrl95 17 points 17 points 34 points (+34|-17) ago
He may be bias, but I feel like he would be 100% professional about it if asked to moderate. Also I feel like he's the one with the sense to ask the real questions people like Kelly wouldn't ask.
[–] Gerplunckamo 13 points 27 points 40 points (+40|-13) ago (edited ago)
I've got a question for him. He's been bitching and whining about Wall Street for years; and his brother, with huge ties to the New York Stock Exchange, has never made an appearance on the show. Not once.
Does that sound 100% professional to you?
[–] Say_What 4 points 10 points 14 points (+14|-4) ago (edited ago)
Bias is a noun. Biased is an adjective. Jon Stewart, and you, are biased, not bias.
We now return from this pedantry break to our regularly scheduled argument.

What if it was a late stage democrat primary debate?
