Yeah, that's not going to be biased at all. Brilliant , OP.

What if it was a late stage democrat primary debate?

I've got a question for him. He's been bitching and whining about Wall Street for years; and his brother, with huge ties to the New York Stock Exchange, has never made an appearance on the show. Not once.
Does that sound 100% professional to you?

I doubt the idea is: "Wow, Jon Stewart is so unbiased he should host a debate!"
I would assume it's more along the lines of: "If Jon Stewart sat Hillary and Bernie down, he'd ask the questions I'd want to ask and challenge them on the shit I'd want to challenge them on", or something like that.
Fuck yeah, I'd watch that debate. I wouldn't be expecting some kind of super formal, objective, strictly-regulated thing. I'd want to see how those two, together, dealt with JS's interpretive framework and worldview, which clearly resonates with his viewership. People want him to moderate a debate because they think he'll call shit like he sees it; in that sense, the bias is exactly the attraction.
That being said, yeah: of course the petition is wishful thinking. Nobody's going to agree to that shit. Just tryna explain the appeal as I see it.

I don't really get it since he'd often treat guests on his show with kid gloves and not ask hard questions. But I agree that he's built a brand up around being unbiased, trustworthy, and anti-establishment which is probably where this is coming from.

That makes sense. Have an upgoat for your trouble.

That is the dumbest petition ever. This is why society is dumbing down

Don't worry we have always been this dumb. The spread of mass information is just enlightening us to this fact.
