No. It's just another meaningless PC proxy war between different groups of white people. If you really care about the plight of Native Americans, football teams are the furthest thing from your mind. There are very real issues to be discussed with respect to their communities. This is a sideshow that takes away from the real issues, something we're seeing again with Zimbabweans and the Cecil the Lion media circus.

Even worse is the fact that the federal government and political parties keep butting in on this issue which reeks of dishonesty, government overreach, and problems with priorities. Their federal trademark registration was denied and the appeal upheld just because some busybodies in DC decided they should make the decision for them. Why is this acceptable? Why is this their job? People say the poll of Native Americans favoring the name when the controversy started is flawed but nobody followed up so how do they even judge its offensiveness? Do you even hear anyone talking today about "them fuckin' Redskins takin' er jerrrrrbs"? The whole issue is just a shitshow.

I like the Redskin team - I loved the Hoggs back in the day. But the name is absolutely racist - its the definition - referring to a group generically by the color of its skin. Washington - Warriors or Natives or Americans or Tribe or Champions or Soldiers or Choctaw or Captains

Yes/No: I can see both sides. On one hand, it stems from a different time when some high profile players happened to be of first nations heritage. Under the social paradigm of the time they felt there was nothing wrong with calling themselves that, and in fact wore it with pride. As time has gone on, and our culture has grown, we generally see the labeling of a group of people by the color of their skin as wrong. I think the question of it's derogatory nature, regardless of it's intention, is more up to the people affected by it than anyone else. That all said, this is a registered trademark and longtime staple of our culture. Were this to be a proposed name of an expansion franchise it would never make it past the planning stages, but as long as this franchise has been around with this name, If anything should be grandfathered in it should be this.

I gave up MLB completely with the strike in '94. Been to one game since then (for my dad's 60th) after being obsessed with the sport. I don't want to have to give up the NFL as well. Keep the name.

And Oklahoma changes to something else. Oklahoma means 'Red People' in Choctaw.

I want the Monuments so bad, but for unrealistic reasons. I'd want their logo to be the Washington Monument in the center, with two domes, one on either side representing the White House dome, and say the Capitol dome. Whichever of the domes you prefer from buildings in DC really, so it would look like a cock and balls. but with monuments. That way it would really get people's panties in a wad and I would laugh hysterically because I'm not really a nearly 30 year old man.

The Capitals are our hockey team. I was thinking Warriors, as there isn't a pro NFL team with that name, and it may fit with the song "Hail to the Warriors"...maybe...I don't know!
