Just install 7 on the new hardware. You probably won’t like 10. And you’ll need to add about 200 IP addresses to your router’s blocklist (not the hosts file, because Windows ignores that) to stop the telemetry back to MIcrosoft.

I maybe wrong but doesn't windows 7 have telemetry too?
[–] Tallest_Skil ago
Oh right, they retroactively added it to Windows 7 so you can’t escape. I forgot, because of how terrible that is.

I know i'm gonna hate 10. But...eventually hardware compatibility will run out. Cant stay on 7 forever.

Kubuntu linux -- Virtualbox -- Win7 -- sandbox

Besides, if you’re connected to any bid programs, they will eventually drop support for older OS, forcing an upgrade.

Not sure where to get that, but my plan is to disable updates, and fuckover all the telemetry i can.

ok, should I jump on this bandwagon?, I am still running W7, but am very much learning Penguin and hope to make the full fledged jump, the more I read the more reasons I should change, I refuse WX, and, well it seems that Linux is a different flavour, and gives me more control over my comp. And Winblows has been my lazy option for decades.

Really depends on what programs you plan to use. For general purpose use, there is no reason not to use linux. But for compatibility with some professional software, and games, its a bit of a pain.

use Linux, windows is a virus
[–] ExpertShitposter [S] ago
Compatibility issues. One day i may. Some say x86 is going byebye. This will be the moment for linux to strike.
[–] Computergeek01 ago
x86 the instruction set? Or do you mean 32-bit apps? Because the later are all but done and gone.

Ugh, 'use Linux derp derp'. Linux is just as much of a virus as Windows nowadays.
[–] foxtrot45 ago
how? I check open connections once in a while, also I check the query log on my router that is running dnscrypt. There is nothing suspicious in the dns lookups unless firefox is open.
