Most Europeans have suffered through some shit at some point or another, we and our families all have horror stories. That being said, the consequences of many of these things pertain to food shortages, starvation, cannibalism etc; so if there is one thing most Europeans do actually have in common (besides all having a bit of hate for one another), is an underlying hatred for fat fucks who waste resources and then call themselves oppressed like it means something.

Sweden checking in. I think there's something to this for sure. Might be lingering effects of the World Wars. We got through it VERY lightly compared to most but still had rationing and so on. Even two generations later, consuming more than your share is a bit taboo. Probably a theme throughout our war torn history.

I've seen adverts in Europe warning against childhood obesity, and that's really where this needs to be tackled. They were particularly clever in focussing on behaviours, like educating adults on the amount of food children really need, rather than showing images of fat children. I've seen adverts in the US that depict fat children, which of course attracted a great deal of criticism. I'd actually agree that it's a delicate matter and one best handled by trying to change habits and not through stigmatising obesity. Children have little control here, so it's the parents that need to be reached. Barring a diagnosed medical reason, I think we should consider extreme childhood obesity and poor nutrition the same way we'd view a child being left unwashed and deprived of education. This is how we break the ham cycle passed down from parent to child and make it possible these children will live long enough to see their own grandchildren.

As a European I feel I need to nuance you a bit. As blunt and as open as your aunt is few people actually are here. Not in public at least, and not in English. Whenever I'm abroad I love just how openly rude I can be about fat people because nobody speaks Dutch. Some people are actually that blunt but that's certainly not the standard . But we are much more open about what is to be discussed. We talk about obesity, ask the fatties why they got fat and what they are doing about it. And there's loads of government sponsored ads and education to stop childhood obesity. We have it, but it's not as insane as across the pond, thank god

I thought the same terrifying thought today while standing behind a hamplanet. Why bother to document? It's just so prevalent now as to be normalized. So depressing.

At the grocery store: 'I can't believe how fat everyone is now. Why are they so fat?' -My shitlord 94 year old grandma who can't hear really well, so she talks very loudly.

I see fat people here in Europe, but not on the sheer scale I've seen in the US. It's not that everyone is fat - I see plenty of Americans in good shape. It seems more about extremes, where hams in the US can become walking mountains of butter. I eat out most of the time when I'm in the US and often can't finish the meals. I order small or medium meals in fast food places because anything bigger than that is more like a meal for two. I routinely see people walking around with soft drink cups that look close to a litre in size.

Ha, your aunt's awesome! That sort of raw, unfiltered contempt is rare and so wonderful.
Reading this reminded me of my late and dearly-missed grandmother. She grew up in Wales and was ornery as hell, with a disdain of whales that always made me laugh as a little girl.

If you go off deep fried food for a month, you'll probably go off it altogether. I only eat deep fried food once a week now, and it's usually just fries or maybe chicken nuggets.
It still tastes good, but the stomach hates it. It's a lot like when you eat anything that has way too much butter.

When it comes to fair food I think some exceptions can be made. I've heard deep fried twinkies are popular, how's that so?
