Modi has directed farmers to sell directly to companies and sellers, meaning the farmers are no longer guaranteed the same minimum profits. Now they must negotiate for themselves when it comes to finding buyers

How so? Haven't farmers in the USA have always done it this way?

1. Farmers sell their product to distributors.

2. Distributors sell to stores and handle the packaging and transportation.

3. Stores sell to consumers.

Seems like what India had are artificial price controls. Basically a giveaway to farmers. In the USA we have subsidies.

How does this detract from the significance of their effort? They're standing up for what they believe in and that's admirable regardless of their sanitation infrastructure.
