What is this "starvation mode" that they mention? To me, the way it's described is more like an addiction term called Euphoric Recall where you romanticize and obsess about a drug. Starvation mode can only take place when you reach a very low body fat percentage and maintain a nutrient depleted state for an extended time.

I've never heard of a fat person starving to death.

Someone can't be correct if they were financially encouraged to say it? A product can't be useful if it's advertised? Weight loss products can be marketed to doctors and sold for profit and still be potentially helpful. McDonald's advertises and sells their product for profit, but I don't see your scepticism there. Most of the best products in the world are heavily marketed and hugely expensive.
