Didnt the south fight AGAINST the union last time? Didn't they want the nation split up?

The South didn't want to be controlled by the "elite" in the North, they wanted to be left alone. Side note, they took the Constitution with them. What they wanted was what the Constitution guaranteed them, to be unmolested by the federal government.

The South fought the civil war to prevent their states being controlled by federal big government bureaucracy. The "union" isn't what founded this country, it was founded as a republic of sovereign states. They were fighting to maintain that sovereignty.

What kid of government would this new country have? Would they vote and honor the vote or would they just ignore it ?
We either respect the systems we all put in place and work diligently to assure they are functioning properly or we jettison our government and give up the idea of a free society of the people, by the people, for the people.
