Rosa Parks was obese. It is one of the reasons she couldn't get out of her seat and her loss of breath and confusion.

However, I'm sure she would be simply considered a 'smallfat' with still too much pesky 'thin privilege' today.

How embarrassingly ridiculous.

Is this some kind of fucking yank thing? Coz it doesn't happen here.

Where?

[–] Ghostman_Loon ago

Currently UK, but worked most of Europe.

The nuance is not to do it if it puts you in danger of even more "medical fatphobia". That anything medical could have anything to do with your weight is just out of the question for these dumb beasts.

Can't doctors simply refuse to see patients who pull this kind of REEEEEEEEtarded-ass stuff? I admit that I'm not a doctor, so I don't know the legal ramifications.

Yes, they can--at least, they can in certain places or situations.

When you take your car to be serviced, you go there to have the oil changed and the brakes checked. But what they also do is give you recommendations about other things they noticed. What if a mechanic didn't bother to report that there is a slow leak in one of your tyres or that your timing belt might need replacement soon? They would be a bad mechanic because the reason you're paying them is to identify more than the bleedingly obvious and to have more skills than rotating the tyres.

I went to have golf clubs fitted recently and the guy identified a problem I had and actually sent me away to fix it before he would recommend new golf sticks. He could have assumed that I live a Health at Every Swing Flaw lifestyle, but he informed me of something adjacent to why I was there because that's why you pay a professional.

You dumb fatfuck! Not being weighed is thin privilege? Listen up, fatso - I WANT my doc to check all the basics when I go for a visit. I pride myself on how well I know my own body but shit can creep up on you sometimes, and the doc is the person most likely to give you the “how long has xxxxx been xxxx...” that I may miss, thus, potentially, saving my bacon!

What I don’t want is health professionals failing to ask me questions because some fuckwit might be offended.
