Amen! That's exactly how I view all this nonsense.
Went into a well known coffee house (I was desperate for caffeine) looking through the window before entering, 15 people spread around all talking and eating in small groups, no masks.
I walk in without a mask, standing a decent distance from the server and her "protective" bit of plastic screen that was 3 foot high, and she screamed at me to put a mask on or she can't serve me.
I look around and point out all the people sitting chatting and eating all maskless and ask her what the difference is?
Server: "Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
I walk out.

It's worse, people understand these simple questions like dining in a restaurant but few have the courage to call it out and say no.

Common sense is the sense of common folk. Common folk have no sense whatsoever.

I think you have a slight misunderstanding of common sense. Common sense isn't very good. Common sense tells us the Earth is Flat. Morons are common, and they all have "common sense."
You're looking for the phrase "good sense," which is a much rarer trait.

How old are you? Typically younger than 30 had their brains rewired with computers and phones. The way information is spread trained them to not be able to retain focus. They read half of headlines. They accept everything as truth and move on to "enjoy life" it's all they care about. Pleasure. They are addicted to feeling good. Anything that can worry or cause anxiety is discarded.
