Am glad to hear stories of redemption like this.

We all fight our demons, regardless of who or why.

I hope things continue to be good for you. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations, dude. I too have quit drinking. No question about it, it's an addictive substance and I get a massive rush from just one drink. I'd rather be productive than a drunk.

Same. Detox was a blast.

I never understood my addiction until I learned of a test to see if you’re an alcoholic. There are two types of people, those who experience a physical rush from drinking and those who don’t. The test, on an empty stomach sit down and let your pulse slow to resting. Take 3 shots of vodka, if your pulse increases then you experience a rush when drinking, and you’re susceptible to being an alcoholic. Most of the population will have their heart rate remain constant or decreases. Alcoholics actually feel a rush as they are getting drunker.

It seems obvious now, but I was unaware of the true mechanism until I learned this.

Yup. There are two separate things to consider when drinking: The dopamine-reward sensation - and the intoxication itself.

Blood alcohol rises and it feels great. You get a rush of awesomeness. But that is short-lived and all that is left is the sloppy intoxication which will take hours to go away. The best way to explain it is when you day-drink and then try to sober up by evening. It's only ever fun when blood alcohol is rising. Once blood alcohol begins to fall, it's just a shitty unwelcome experience.

Thankyou for your post. I was never a really heavy drinker but I was always a regular drinker. I work from home and would have a couple beers with lunch every day It turned into like 6 and I realized one day that I could slam 6 beers in an hour and not get drunk. Hell, I couldnt even feel it. Not good. So I

Quitting drinking saved my life. I wasn't even an alcoholic. Just casual. Where I live, it's expensive and sold buy the government. It's one of the few only industries that didn't get covid-1984'd. That alone tells you everything.

Quitting videogames also saved my life, marriage, house, children. Video Games are the worst.

This is my biggest vice. It’s almost killed me, it’s gotten me in trouble with the cops. And I’ve never even done combat. I heard about the bullshit when I was younger, blessing and a curse.

Good on you man. Some of my best friends are Rino’s. Hope I hit that market at some point.
