Correct. Because IQ is so focused on standard deviations and bell curves, it is asinine not to use IQ 85 to denote something.
I think the public outcry is because of "euphemism creep".
Medicine had terms for EACH level of retardation. Medical terms. But all became somehow pejorative, and then considered hateful medical terms.
In the last 30 years, every parent stole the word "autistic" and misapply it to actual retarded kids.
see? :

Wow "autism" went up 277 fold, and kids diagnosed as "retarded" dropped 277 fold, magically. The graph is real. Parents hate having a "retarded kid" or a "tard baby".
in 1970 there were astounding amounts of RETARDED KIDS
In 2020 all parents claim they have AUTISTIC Kids, and no parents seem to ever have a RETARDED KID
Its a euphemism drift.
Euphemisms keep creeping and changing. (Euphemism Drift). Negro, Nigger, Colored, Colored People, Black, finally African Americans!
No one wants to be a Negro , so they just keep changing the term. to more syllables.
The word for mobile handicapped Cripple originally was "Hirple". It was Hirple before 1300. Then they changed it to be Cripple (a similar ancient word) to be less derogatory, as no one wanted to be called Hirple.
Soon, cripples did not want to be called CRIPPLED, so they changed it again to DISABLED.
Then the DISABLED did not want to be called DISABLED, so they changed the euphemism to HANDICAPPED
Then from HANDICAPPED to CHALLENGED, then to DISABLED PERSON, then DIFFERENTLY-ABLED, then from DIFFERENTLY ABLED, to HANDICAPABLE, then to SPECIAL.
(For one year the SJWs tried to leave "Special" behind and steal the word "GIFTED" but it did not take.)
That "Euphemism Drift" is caused when a group of people do not want to be named and the term is banned as an attack on them. The new word is usually deliberately less accurate or harder to pronounce.
Its the same thing with RETARDED. No one wants to be a RETARDED so they keep inventing new ways to not be called RETARDED, like "autistic" (even though there is/was a real thing called autism before it was infested with retards.)

Excellent post! I am a student of psychology and am not at all surprised to learn of the political influence on the science. I am interested that it occurred so long ago, so that several generations of psychologists never get to read things like this. I truly appreciate your contribution, especially with the sources.
