The last place I worked there were 12 of us doing basically the same job. When I started I put in max effort and was always helping my co-workers. A couple of years later we got a new supervisor, I got written up a couple of times for spending too much time helping others and not working at my station. Then the supervisor convinced management he was over worked and hired an assistant. After a few months the assistant told me he was checking production numbers and I was putting out almost twice the product as the next most productive worker. Stewed about that for a few weeks and hit the boss up for a raise. Nope, couldn't do it, policy, you know, blah blah... So from then on I watched the slowest worker and just kept pace with him.

I enjoy my work and it makes a difference for the people who work with me. I work for myself.

However, even when I worked for others I took pride in my work.

No matter what you do, take pride in your work. It is good for you. That way you are spending your time doing something proudly and doing something well.

So you finally feel like anyone who wasn’t a boomer does. Congrats. Slaving for goldstein isn’t a point of pride faggot.

Welcome to the club Mr. Nougat. Almost nobody really cares TBH. It's mostly people doing shit they don't want to be doing and making the best of it. When I used to code I enjoyed it for awhile. Then it got old, like everything does.

This guy lives with bears for fun. No shortage of adrenaline here.

I work for a small company doing meaningful work and the dollar raise I get every 3 months is reflective of my work.

The fact that you care at any point is the funny bit. I used to care a lot, like top of the company a lot. Then one day I started to realize that everybody around me is doing jack shit and getting paid more. I went and tried the raise route, that did nothing. So, I started gold bricking. Now I work about 3 hours a week, I particularly get worse and will only do 30 minutes of work if they start to piss me off. They tried to threaten my job, when I told them that if they could find anybody to take over my job they were welcome to, I'd even train them. Think that scares them worse, because I just don't give a fuck anymore. Also stopped advising on best practices as they never listened. Just whenever they want me to do anything stupid I get it in writing and print it out for my folder of preventing future lawsuits.

Right on.

I'm quitting my job this week to take a better one. My manager complained that I didn't give him advance notice about my 2 weeks notice. This is the same guy who decided everyone should work longer hours (unpaid!) to make him look good. These fucks are so of touch. Don't feel bad at all when you move on.

You should care, a lot. Just not about ownership's interests, but instead about your own interests.

Use each job as a stepping stone to the next better job, whether that means more pay, something you enjoy more, whatever.

Ownership ultimately doesn't give a fuck about you, no matter what they say, profitability is their overriding goal. Only you can look out for your own best interests. Work smart and work hard no matter what you do or who you work for, that's how you eventually either get ownership in a business or gain enough experience, confidence, capital, and reputation to start your own business, if you want to. Don't be afraid to hop between opportunities and don't let anyone carrot-on-a-stick you for too long.
