I think it was Car and Driver magazine that did a survey a couple years. Summary was that less than 20% of people 25 years old or younger had ever even tried to drive a manual transmission car. Exceptions were kids who grew up on farms.

its the same concept as why apple had better security, it was due to not having as many industry computers running it. all the real money was stored on microsoft computers so it wasnt worth it to hack. the same dicotimy is happening with cars now since there are almost no manuals
