I missed the graph? WTF. I'll upvoat it anyway, thanks for the heads up. BTW, not sure why there is no love for the Keltec PLR-16 (Pistol Long Range) as they bring the game to the range for 5.56 machine pistols at an inexpensive price (relative to HK, Sig or making your own shorty)

In summary

My 8.5" AR 223 rounds have 33% more energy than my 16" 40sw carbine. And with a pistol brace you can carry it in your vehicle like a pistol, in my State.

I believe running a higher pressure round with a slight increase in velocity (M193) will serve your needs just fine...but that’s just supposition.

The author seems to indicate that below 10” M855 is below the velocity threshold to provide the desired terminal ballistic effects for which the cartridge was created

so what would be the optimal cartridge for a ~8-12" SBR?

.300 Blackout

.458 SOCOM

.50 Beowulf

Anything heavy and trending subsonic

thx.

7.62x39

This is what I use...little is needed for 10.5.

A 7.62x39 bolt, enhanced firing pin, 300 BO feed ramps, and special mags made to fit the cartridge.

You will need the carbine buffer...I tried pistol length and it isnt reliable for cycling.

Took it to the range yesterday and passed it around like a whore....cycled great till some fuckwad wanted to be special and used brass casings in it. Snapped the extractor off...which is somewhat expected with this caliber.

I had another so whatever....went back to shooting.

Put close to 1500 though it yesterday. New mags made it feed jam a couple times, but gun is a beast and its loud....like really loud.

5.56 was designed for a 20" barrel, there should be no surprise that works great at 20" and not so great at 7".

The authors agree and provide objective evidence against the unit armorers who would suggest otherwise

I mean, I feel guilty for cabbies at 16”.

Right tool for the right job.

This is just someone that can't see the purpose for something he doesn't believe it should be used for

My wife has a 10.5in barrel chambered in 5.56. Its light, easy to move around, and great for intermediate targets. She uses a holo without magnified so really....what is the issue? There isn't one, and to bring in all these graphs, pictographs, and science......wiki could have told you the same shit you see here.....

If it works for you and yours for your purposes, by all means continue.

The author cautions about a specific projectile (m855) reaching a suboptimal velocity that is insufficient for desired terminal ballistics in an organizational case use setting. Totally different animal
